The Minister of External Affairs of India, Salman Khurshid concluded his two day Official visit to Sri Lanka on Tuesday 8th October 2013. The visit was undertaken at the invitation of the Minister of External Affairs of Sri Lanka Prof G.L Peiris. Minister Khurshid was accompanied by Madam Louise Khurshid and a high level Indian delegation from the Ministry of External Affairs.

The refurbished Sri Lanka Room at the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office in New Delhi was unveiled by the High Commissioner Prasad Kariyawasam, this month, in the presence of the WHO Regional Director Dr. Samlee Plianbangchang and Dr. Athula Kahandaliyange, Director, Sustainable Development and Healthy Environment, WHO/ SEARO at the Regional Office and other distinguished guests. At the ceremony held for this purpose, High Commissioner Kariyawasam stated that the Sri Lanka Room is a symbol of cooperation and friendship between the WHO and Sri Lanka and its renovation is a token of appreciation of the assistance rendered by WHO for the development of Sri Lanka’s Health sector, including for promotion of Indigenous medicine.

High Commissioner Prasad Kariyawasam, during his visit to Kolkata on 17th September 2013, addressed a select group of members of the Bengal Chamber of Commerce & Industry on “India-Sri Lanka Relations : Opportunities for Both Countries”. Ensuing discussion focused on future directions for developing a special relationship between Colombo and Kolkata, greater economic and trade links, including air and sea connectivity as well as an entry point for Buddhist pilgrims to visit northern India.

High Commissioner Prasad Kariyawasam was the Chief Guest at the Seminar organized by the Maha Bodhi Society of India in Kolkata on 17th September 2013, to commemorate 149th Birth Anniversary of the late Ven. Anagarika Dharmapala. The Seminar entitled “Buddha in the lives of Anagarika Dharmapala and Swami Vivekananda” was presided by the Governor J B Patnaik of the state of Assam and several other dignitaries from India and abroad including Ven. Weragoda Sarada Nayake Maha Thero, Chief Sanghanayake of Singapore. Governor Patnaik and High Commissioner Kariyawasam both addressed participants at the inaugural session. High Commissioner also met with Sri Lankan students studying in Kolkata during this function. The photographs were taken at this event at the Maha Bodhi Society of India headquarters in Kolkata.
