Continuing his ongoing dialogue with the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister of India Dr. Pramod Kumar Mishra, the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in New Delhi Milinda Moragoda met with the former at the Prime Minister’s Office today (05). 

High Commissioner Moragoda thanked Dr. Mishra for the support India has been extending to Sri Lanka in the context of the present economic crisis and updated him on the current developments in that regard, including on the debt restructuring process. The High Commissioner stressed the vital role that economic integration between the two countries could play in Sri Lanka’s economic recovery. The Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister recalled India’s close civilizational links with its southern neighbour.

The discussion between High Commissioner Moragoda and Mr. Jindal was centred around the investment opportunities in Sri Lanka.

Continuing his discussions with large-scale Indian investors and corporate leaders, Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to India Milinda Moragoda met with IndiGo airline’s co-founder and Managing Director Rahul Bhatia today (26) in New Delhi. This was a follow-up to the meeting that they had in December last year. 

The discussion between High Commissioner Moragoda and Mr. Bhatia was centred around the critical importance of enhancing air connectivity as an essential means of increasing tourism inflows to Sri Lanka. They agreed that tourism, particularly tourism inflows from India, is a key pillar in the economic recovery of Sri Lanka, and discussed ways and means to harness the potential of increased connectivity to enhance tourism.

Marking the 75th anniversary of the establishment of Indo-Lanka diplomatic relations, which falls this year, two photographs of Sri Lankan origin were unveiled at the office of the State Minister of External Affairs and Culture of India at the National Gallery of Modern Art in New Delhi today (22).


The photographs, which were installed at the office of the State Minister of External Affairs and Culture Smt. Meenakshi Lekhi, feature two murals painted by the eminent Sri Lankan painter Solias Mendis in the Kelaniya Rajamaha Vihara.

Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to India Milinda Moragoda met with the Indian Minister of Commerce and Industry Shri Piyush Goyal yesterday (20/4) at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in New Delhi, to follow up on the key areas that were discussed during their last meeting in February.

The key areas discussed in February included mechanisms relating to the expansion of bilateral trade, the ways to establish and promote rupee trade between Sri Lanka and India as a means of economic recovery in Sri Lanka, and the possibility of further bilateral integration in the textiles and garment sector. 

At the meeting, the progress made so far in these key areas was reviewed by the Indian Commerce Minister and the Sri Lankan High Commissioner. Special attention was given to the area of trade expansion as a means of economic recovery of Sri Lanka, and the way forward in this regard was discussed in detail. In this context, High Commissioner Moragoda reiterated the key role that India, with its projected growth rate of 6.7% for 2024, could play in Sri Lanka’s economic recovery. 

A Chartered Accountant by profession, Shri Piyush Goyal also holds the Ministerial portfolios of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution as well as Textiles. He is the Leader of the House of the Rajya Sabha, the upper House of the Indian Parliament. He has also held the Ministerial portfolios of Railways, Finance, Corporate Affairs, Coal, Power, New & Renewable Energy and Mines, previously.
