High Commission of Sri Lanka in India

President Maithripala Sirisena, in terms of powers vested in him as the President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka under Emergency Regulations No. 01 of 2019, has taken steps to ban the organizations National Thawheed Jammath (NTJ) and Jamathei Millathu Ibraheem (JMI) in Sri Lanka.

As such, all activities of those organizations as well as their property will be seized by the government.

Steps are been taken to ban other extremist organizations operating in Sri Lanka, under Emergency Regulations.

The Minister of State for External Affairs of India, General (Dr.) V.K. Singh (Retd.) visited the Sri Lanka High Commission in New Delhi on Wednesday 24 April 2019 to offer condolences to the Government and the people of Sri Lanka following the tragic terror attacks on Easter Sunday in Sri Lanka.  The State Minister for External Affairs was received by the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in the New Delhi, HE Austin Fernando. Following the signing the Book of Condolence, Minister Singh conveyed his deepest condolences on behalf of the Indian Government to the Government of Sri Lanka led by President Maithripala Sirisena, the Sri Lankan people, and especially the families of the victims.  High Commissioner Austin Fernando extended his deep appreciation to the Minister V K Singh for the kind gesture extended by Indian Government in the aftermath of this tragedy. High Commissioner also conveyed his deepest sympathies to the Minister V K Singh for the loss of lives of Indian nationals during the terror attacks.

35th Board Meeting of the India -Sri Lanka Foundation was held in New Delhi on 11th March 2019 at the ITC Maurya Hotel, in New Delhi with a view to fostering bilateral relations through the enhancement of economic, scientific, educational, technical and cultural cooperation, as well as promoting greater understanding between the peoples of the two countries.

Ambassador of Vietnam H.E. Pham Sanh Chau called on H.E. the High Commissioner on 22nd March 2019. Given the shared Buddhist heritage of both countries both dignitaries discussed on the Tripitaka and Vesak Celebrations in Sri Lanka. Discussions on the upcoming scheduled visit of the Minister of Buddha Sasana of Sri Lanka to Vietnam for Vesak at the invitation extended by the Ambassador of Vietnam in Colombo.
