General Vijay Kumar Singh PVSM AVSM YSM ADC, the Chief of Army Staff, Indian Army at the invitation of his Sri Lankan counterpart, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya arrived in Sri Lanka on a five-day official tour.

The Indian Army Chief’s five-member delegation comprised of Mrs Bharti Singh, President, Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA), Major General Harminderjit Singh Sachdev SM, General Officer Commanding, Infantry Division, Brigadier Jatinder Pal Singh, Military Assistant and Mrs Aravinder Kaur.

General Vijay Kumar Singh’s visit to Sri Lanka, seen as a portent for further promotion of goodwill, understanding and military cooperation between the two military establishments in both countries, is the first-ever highest level Army delegation from India to have visited Sri Lanka after the culmination of the war for peace.

Indian Army Chief calls on H E the President

 

The visiting General Vijay Kumar Singh, accompanied by Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, paid a courtesy call on HE, the President Mahinda Rajapaksa  at Temple Trees. The visiting Army Chief extended his warm greetings to the President and expressed his pleasure over efforts, being launched to bring prosperity to the country by the government of Sri Lanka after restoring peace in the island. As a token of memory, the visiting Indian Army Chief presented a special memento to HE the President. He also reciprocated gifting another valuable souvenir to the visiting Army Chief.

Later on, the visiting Army Chief arrived at Visumpaya to call on Hon Prime Minister D M Jayaratne where both of them had a brief exchange of views on matters of bilateral concern.

Indian Army Chief calls-on Secretary Defence


General Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, ADC Chief of the Indian Army Staff paid a courtesy call on Secretary Defence Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa on Sep 06 morning.

Discussion between the two officials was held at the Secretary's Office on matters of bilateral interests.

General VK Singh took over the Chief of the Army Staff on 31 March 2010 and possesses vast operational experience in Counter Insurgency Operations, LC, LAC, and HAA environments. The General was seen action in "Operation Pawan" in Sri Lanka in1987 where he led the Indian Peace Keeping Forces against LTTE terrorist to capture Jaffna and was awarded Yudh Seva Medal for his contribution.

Mr. Rajapaksa and General Singh exchanged plaques to mark the occasion.

Indian delegation comprising Major General Harminderjit Singh Sachdev SM, General Officer Commanding, Infantry Division, Brigadier Jatinder Pal Singh, Defence Attache and Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasooria were also present at the occasion.

Indian Chief of Army Staff calls on Commander of the Navy


General Vijay Kumar Singh PVSM, AVSM, YSM, ADC, Chief of Army Staff, Indian Army, called on the Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy Vice Admiral Thisara Samarasinghe on 06th September 2010 at the Naval Headquarters in Colombo. On arrival, he was accorded a Guard of Honour and was warmly received by Commander of the Navy.

They held brief discussions on matters of mutual interest and cooperation. Mementos were also exchanged to mark the visit.
