The High Commission of Sri Lanka in New Delhi opened its doors on 19 April 2026 to host a vibrant Sinhala and Tamil New Year – Avurudu and Puthandu – celebration, organised by the Association of Sri Lankans Living in Delhi (ASLID) together with the Sri Lankan Students Association in New Delhi (SLSAND). Bringing together members of the Sri Lankan community in Delhi, including students and High Commission staff, the event reflected a shared spirit of renewal, unity, and goodwill—demonstrating how traditions continue to thrive even away from home. Guests enjoyed a delightful spread of traditional Avurudu sweets and delicacies, followed by lively New Year games that filled the High Commission gardens with colour, laughter, and festivity. A truly community-driven event, the celebration highlighted the enduring strength of Sri Lankan traditions and the importance of togetherness, while also reflecting the shared cultural rhythms of the region during this season of new beginnings.
