Minister of State for External Affairs of India Smt. Meenakshi Lekhi hosted a farewell lunch for Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to India Milinda Moragoda, today (27).

The traditional farewell lunch for the outgoing High Commissioner was hosted by State Minister Lekhi in the absence of External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar who is in New York attending the United Nations General Assembly. 

The farewell lunch was held at the prestigious Hyderabad House in New Delhi and the Heads of Mission of Argentina, Denmark, Israel, New Zealand, Norway and the United Kingdom as well as the Joint Secretary of the Indian Ocean Region Division of the Ministry of External Affairs were present.   

During the farewell lunch, High Commissioner Moragoda recalled the close interactions that he has had with the Ministry of External Affairs including the External Affairs Minister and thanked the State Minister for the assistance that she had extended to him personally as well as to Sri Lanka during his tenure in Delhi. 

As a token of appreciation and goodwill, High Commissioner Moragoda presented to State Minister Lekhi a stone obtained from the stream flowing besides the Seetha Amman Temple in Seetha Eliya (Ashoka Vatika) in Sri Lanka, which is believed to be the site where Seetha was held captive according to the Ramayana.

Earlier this week, Foreign Secretary of India Shri Vinay Kwatra too hosted a farewell lunch for High Commissioner Moragoda.
