The High Commission of Sri Lanka in New Delhi, in collaboration with the Deputy High Commission of Sri Lanka in Chennai and the Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Mumbai, is in the process of compiling a comprehensive database of Sri Lankan students currently in India. There are approximately 600 Sri Lankan students all over India dispersed throughout various States.

The High Commission is constantly in touch with student groups and their institutions scattered across India, and working on ensuring their safety and welfare.  A mobile hotline has been established for the students to contact the High Commission 24/7, and mobile telephone numbers of the diplomatic staff have also been made available to them.

The High Commission of Sri Lanka in New Delhi has advised all students to keep indoors and remain safe by taking all precautionary measures. The Mission constantly monitors their situation and is committed to assist and ensure the safety and welfare of the students.

In the meantime, the Mission has also requested all Sri Lankans in India, including the students, to register themselves in the ‘Contact Sri Lanka’ Online Portal (www.contactsrilanka.mfa.gov.lk)  for overseas Sri Lankans, launched by the Ministry of Foreign Relations on 26 March.
